Do we Accept Insurance for Nutrition Visits?
Yes, and No.
You may be wondering if you can use your health insurance to see a Dietitian on our team.
The amazing thing is most insurance companies cover nutritional counseling but Florida is a finicky state for commercial insurance.
Confirming this is the responsibility of YOU (not our team) prior to scheduling an appointment . So here is how you accomplish this:
Call the 800 number on the back of your insurance card and ask to speak to a representative
Ask them, “do I have nutritional counseling coverage on my plan?”
If they ask for a CPT code, use 97802 or 97803. If they deny that you have this covered, NEXT ask about CPT codes 99401, 99402, 99403, or 99404. You may also be able to utilize code S9470.
They may ask for a diagnosis (AKA an ICD 10 code), please tell them Z71.3 (or Z72.4 if the first option is not covered).
If you are overweight, obese, have pre-diabetes, diabetes, hypertension, or cholesterol, you make want to see if if you have coverage for these diagnosis as well.
We utilize a preventative code (if applicable) to ensure you are able to maximize your visits with a Dietitian.
Some diagnosis, such as IBS (if not overweight) may require a cost-share in the form of a deductible, co-pay, or co-insurance.
Your carrier will determine how many visits you have per year.
